Our aim for our Nursery and Reception classes is to provide a ‘home from home’ for our children, creating an atmosphere where we bring curiosity, awe and wonder into early childhood. We seek to encourage inquiring minds and imagination in a safe and caring environment through a balance of structured activity and child-initiated free play.

Our core values of love, wisdom and hope are promoted across the Nursery and Reception settings and all children are encouraged to play an active role in their own learning and development.

We place emphasis on the development of relationships and pride ourselves on the positive, enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff within the Nursery and Reception classrooms. All staff provide positive role models to the children; modelling what it means to be a learner by –

• Playing and Learning – investigating, experiencing and ‘having a go’
• Active Learning – concentrating, persisting, keeping on trying when encountering a problem and celebrating achievements
• Creating and Thinking Critically – developing our own ideas, making links between ideas and developing strategies

Underpinning these ‘Characteristics of Effective Learning’ is the understanding that during their early years children form attitudes about learning that will last a lifetime. If children receive the right support and encouragement which respects them as individuals then they will go on to be creative and adventurous learners throughout their entire lives. Our staff aim to encourage all children to fulfil their personal potential by respecting and valuing them as individuals who bring their own needs, talents and experiences to the learning environment.
