There is a one-hour break between morning and afternoon sessions. This is to provide time for children and staff to have a midday break. Lunchtime Supervisors look after the children whilst they eat, then afterwards provide a variety of play activities during this time.
Children can have hot school meals, which are ordered and paid for weekly or half-termly. Some families are entitled to free school meals if they are in receipt of certain benefits; please ask the school office for details. However, from September 2014, all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 will be able to claim a hot school meal daily.
The children eat their hot school lunches in the school hall, and quiet conversation and good manners are encouraged. The lunches served are healthy and nutritionally balanced and – most importantly – enjoyed by the children.
Children having packed lunches will also eat there when the weather is not favourable, but whenever possible, they eat outside on the picnic benches, in shady spots on the playground.
We ask parents to help us in the following ways:
- If your child has a packed lunch, please send food which your child enjoys, in an easy-to-eat way, (e.g. fruit chopped/peeled), in containers/packets that your child can open.
- Food packed in containers with lids should show your child’s name.
- Place drinks in non-breakable containers e.g. flasks, fizzy drinks cause many problems, so avoid these if you can.
Drinking water is promoted for the children throughout the day, and parents must provide a bottle of water daily.
